Student Athlete Successes

The student-athlete experience plays a vital role on the UNLV campus, and while the participation and success of our student-athletes on the playing field brings our collegiate community together, the success of our Rebels as students in the classroom remains paramount to our mission as an athletics department. Within the last year, our student-athlete graduation rate reached a record high of 63%, more than doubling from where it stood just five years ago. Here are some additional highlights from the classroom during the 2006-07 academic year:

• 124 of our student-athletes earned conference academic honors
• 235 student-athletes had a GPA of 3.0 or above
• 96 student-athletes made the Dean’s List
• 9 Rebel teams had cumulative GPAs of 3.0 or above

While the battles fought and the championships won by our teams on the playing field often serve as the most visible sign of success by our student-athletes, it is their success in the classroom that is the most vital aspect of intercollegiate athletics. So while we are extremely proud of the accomplishments listed above, our goal remains to expound on these educational achievements and provide our Rebels with a well-rounded student-athlete experience that is second to none.
